Teeth that have suffered deep decay or a traumatic injury may die, this means that the pulp that contains the nerves has become necrotic.

This sooner or later results in a dental abscess; this can be excruciatingly painful in the case of a pulpitis or can result in a swelling.

This is usually treatable (root canal treatment) if the tooth is not already deeply destroyed, and we endeavour to ensure that all endodotic treatment is absolutely painless.
