Alex was born in Glasgow, and qualified in 1979 at Glasgow University.

Five years with the Royal Air Force took him to South Wales, the Home Counties and the Shetland Islands, where the isolation from specialist services led to the necessity of finding solutions for every case.

The desire for change and the opportunity to work outside the constraints of the NHS, led him to emigrate to Germany.  Firstly he practised in Offenbach, then later moved to Bavaria and set up his own practice.

The experience of the Shetlands was helpful in the relative isolation of a small town practice; again, the lack of a specialist referral system for the more complicated cases encouraged a high degree of self – reliance.  This motivated him to learn fixed–band orthodontics at the Bavarian Academy for Dentistry, then laser dentistry and later implant surgery at the same institute.

The growing restrictions of the German insurance system over the following 18 years were not conducive to personal development, so Alex started looking for alternatives. After working in a mainly ex–pat practice in Javea, he decided that Marbella would offer the circumstance to carry out excellent dentistry in a pleasing environment.

Further training is one of his motivating factors professionally, which led to him taking courses on preventive dentistry, bruxism (Tooth Clenching) and TMJ, advanced aesthetic dentistry, advanced implant surgery and many others.

Here in Marbella we have no real referral system, which means a skilled all–rounder like Alex is ideally placed to help and assist every patient - a job which he truly relishes!
