ADULT ORTHODONTICS ~
Many of us have teeth that are not perfectly straight, and we often wish that we had had the foresight to have had orthodontic treatment as children. All is not lost! Adult orthodontics is almost always possible, to straighten front teeth, close a gap or improve a difficult situation before further aesthetic treatment. Such treatment can have a surprisingly short active phase where brackets (white, if you want them) are fixed to the teeth, followed by a period where a stabilising brace is worn at night. The cost is surprisingly competitive, and is spread over the length of the treatment.
SPEEDY ORTHODONTICS ~
In many cases of adult orthodontics, it is possible to complete the active phase of treatment, where braces are worn, in as little as six months! This is reliant on good treatment planning and perfect patient cooperation. We might not even have to remove any teeth! The subsequent stabilising phase usually requires the wearing of a removable brace at night for 2 years.
ORTHODONTICS FOR CHILDREN ~
Most children would probably benefit from some form of orthodontic treatment; whilst we don’t pretend that straightening teeth brings health benefits, there is no doubt that straight teeth bring substantial advantages in later years in our image – driven society.
The latest statistics released by the British Dental Association prove that early intervention does not improve results, so most children should begin treatment at around the ages of 10 – 12. Most cases will require fixed braces, and will last for around 2 years in the active phase, followed by a night appliance for 2 years. The cost of treatment is spread over the time of the active phase.
